CryptoNote currency creation guide

Postby Catherine_Erwin » Tue Jul 01, 2014 5:48 pm

We highly value the contribution from all the CryptoNote currencies to the technology development and adoption. We believe in coin pluralism and would like to see more CN currencies.

That is why CryptoNote Team has created a completely new repository and a step-by-step guide that covers the forking process. It is designed to help everyone get accustomed with the source code basics and give the CryptoNote technology a try.

We'll be launching a reference code coin and a forking video soon. At the moment you may check out the following links:

When you say that you'll be launching a reference code coin, does that mean that you'll be launching an official currency made by the cryptonote team ? Or is it just a tool to help developer forks with more ease?

If not, do you eventually plan to launch an official currency ?

Even though we'll launch the official CryptoNoteCoin, it will serve as an educational showcase for the CryptoNote technology. Our focus is devoted to the strategic aspects currently, not a particular coin.

The official CryptoNote repository has been updated to include the smart genesis block creation. Previously, it was required to comment and uncomment certain parts of the source code. With our new currency creation flow, the genesis block coinbase tx hash is created as follows:

1) Follow the forking guide and define all the parameters for your currency except for GENESIS_COINBASE_TX_HEX in /src/cryptonote_config.h. You should leave it blank:

Code: Select all
#define GENESIS_COINBASE_TX_HEX               ""

2) Compile the binaries.

3) Start the daemon with the --print-genesis-tx argument:

Code: Select all
cryptonotecoind --print-genesis-tx

The daemon will print out the genesis block coinbase transaction hash.

4) Insert the printed out tx hash to GENESIS_COINBASE_TX_HEX in src/cryptonote_config.h

Code: Select all
#define GENESIS_COINBASE_TX_HEX               "013c01ff0001ffff...785a33d9ebdba68b0"

5) Recompile the binaries. You are now ready to announce and launch your coin.

Hello,

Currently we have our hands full but making the forking video is still on the agenda. We will announce it as soon as we can.

Catherine,

I'm writing a wiki article about CryptoNote. Could You please send them official information about logo permissions?
